INDIA AND SRI LANKA ( 13 nights 14 days )

Tour Details

Day 1 DELHI
Your journey of a lifetime begins in New Delhi. Arrive at the international airport, where you’ll be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. It is recommended that you spend your first evening at leisure in your hotel to recuperate from your international journey. Few places on earth combine beauty, history and escapism to such dazzling effect as the great city of Delhi- the sprawling and fascinating capital of India. The title “A Tale of Two Cities” is apt as Delhi bridges together two different worlds. The Old Delhi, once the capital of Islamic India, contrasts with the British-built centre of New Delhi. On this journey, you will scratch the surface and discover a land sprinkled with dazzling gems of India’s “golden” legacy.
OVERNIGHT IN DELHI

Day 2 DELHI
After breakfast, your visit will include a tour of Old Delhi and the immense Jama Masjid, the greatest mosque in India. You will also see the legendary Red Fort and Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. Finally, awaken the senses with a thrilling rickshaw ride through the busy markets of Chandni Chowk.
Also, visit Rajghat – memorial of Mahatma Gandhi & go on a rickshaw ride through the silver street in Chandni Chowk. New Delhi offers a fascinating contrast: here, you will walk the wide, straight boulevards and pass the monuments of the Empire. Walking the imperial residence, Rashtrapati Bhavan, to the mighty arch of India Gate, designed by Edwin Lutyens in the 1920s, the eternal flame burns day and night to remember the soldiers in the Indo-Pakistan war. Continue to the Laxmi Narayan Temple, Humayun’s Tomb and the Qutub Minar. Another highlight is the Bahai Temple with its lotus dome.
OVERNIGHT IN DELHI

Day 3 DELHI-JAIPUR
After breakfast, you will start your adventure by driving to the city of Jaipur. On arrival, check into your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Jaipur, founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, is a dusky pink pearl sitting elegantly on the edge of the desert. Rose painted Mughal palaces slope to the old town’s bazaars, filled with textiles and jewellery.
We have lined up an evening of drama and atmosphere at the world-famous Light and Sound Show, which is an entertaining way to discover the history of Amber Fort and Jaipur. Scripted by renowned Bollywood filmmaker Gulzar and performed near Maota Lake, folk music and colourful lighting combine to bring to life the historical legends revolving around the 28 kings of the Kachwaha dynasty.
OVERNIGHT IN JAIPUR

Day 4 JAIPUR

After breakfast, explore the splendour of Amber Fort, set on a rugged hill with impressive yellow sandstone battlements and a craggy facade. It was built to protect against any threat from the Mongol invaders. Once guarded by the Mughal armies, the steep lane up towards the fort is now lined with red and gold decorated elephants patrolling the ancient kingdom. Want to enter the fort from exceptional heights?
Later you will drive past the Hawa Mahal. In the afternoon visit the City Palace and museum, before continuing to Jantar Mantar, a structural masterpiece displaying the science of early Indian architecture.
OVERNIGHT IN JAIPUR

Day 5 JAIPUR-AGRA (Taj Mahal visit)
Romance is in the air as we arrive at the Taj Mahal at the brink of dawn. Discover a love poem in stone as you behold the sight of the sun striking its glowing cupid arrow onto the dome that radiates like a giant golden trinket. Taj Mahal cannot be left out of India’s Golden Triangle! The finest example of archaeological brilliance, it is the country’s most famous attraction. Traveller Eleanor Roosevelt said that its white marble “symbolizes the purity of real love.” The Taj was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as the resting place for his beloved Queen Mumtaz Mahal. What else but great love could have inspired such outstanding beauty?
Return to the hotel for breakfast. Later head towards Delhi via the newly built Taj Express. Upon arrival check-in at your hotel. Enjoy an evening at leisure or start exploring the India Gate and Cannaught Place.
OVERNIGHT IN AGRA

Day 6 AGRA-DELHI & THEN FLIGHT TO COLOMBO
You’ll arrive at Bandaranayke International Airport and meet one of our friendly representatives who will transport you to your hotel in Colombo. You may relax and enjoy a delicious dinner in the evening at the hotel
OVERNIGHT IN COLOMBO

Day 7 COLOMBO / DAMBULLA / SIGIRIYA
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll be transported to Sirigiya, the home of one of Sri Lanka’s most valuable and historical monuments. You’ll stop off at Dambulla Rock Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by King Walagambahu, which houses statues and paintings on the ceilings of its 80 documented caves dating back to thousands of years ago. It’s because of this that many archaeologists flock there every year, and you’ll soon see why. Impressive sights include the 153 Buddhist statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses.
Later on in the day, while away the hours on a jeep safari to Minneriya National Park, the best place in Sri Lanka to get up close and personal with elephants in their natural habitat. The park boasts an impressive 7,529 hectares, so there are plenty of opportunities to watch the elephants as they travel in herds of 10 to 20 before your eyes. You should also keep your eyes peeled for water birds, such as hued storks, slender grey herons and majestic white pelicans.
OVERNIGHT IN SIGIRIYA

Day 8 SIGIRIYA / LOCAL VILLAGE VISIT /SIGIRIYA
You’ll head to the incredible Rock Fortress after breakfast at the hotel. Attracting thousands of tourists every year, and referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World by locals, Rock Fortress is an impressive display of archaeological wonder and it doesn’t take a genius to work out why it’s probably the most visited tourist destination of Sri Lanka.
Next, you’ll head to Sigiriya rock plateau, a plateau formed from magma and which is 200 meters higher than the jungle it is situated in. Entry and climbing the rock will cost just an additional £30. Be prepared for a thrilling evening as well, as you’ll be taken on a Bullock Cart Ride to some gorgeous parts of the island, including a Sri Lankan village where you’ll be spoiled and cooked for by the local women and even benefit from a cooking demonstration yourself. Then, enjoy a canoe ride across a beautiful lake!
OVERNIGHT IN SIGIRIYA

Day 9 SIGIRIYA / MATALE/ KANDY
You’ll head to Kandy straight after breakfast and stop off at the Matale Spice Gardens along your way. You’ll be taught about the varying types of spices Sri Lanka has to offer, as well as how they are grown and processed. You’ll have the chance not only to buy spices, but also traditional remedies and cosmetics and you’ll be offered a taste of some herbal brew. In Matale, they’ll also give you a cooking demonstration over lunch and you then you can sit back and enjoy a Herbal Massage which uses the natural products made in those very gardens.
In the evening, you’ll discover the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy and then throw some shapes at a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.
OVERNIGHT IN KANDY

Day 10 KANDY / NUWARA ELIYA / KANDY
Peradeniya railway station is next on the agenda after you’ve enjoyed a hearty breakfast. You’ll board a local train and head to Gampola Railway station where you’ll then proceed to Nuwara Eliya. Any tea lovers will be excited to know that you’ll visit a tea plantation and factory on your way there, and you’ll learn about how tea is manufactured and graded, as well as having the chance to sample a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory.
After arriving in Nuwara Eliya, a city hidden amongst the hill country of the Central Province, you’ll be whisked off on a tour of its main sights, including even more tea plantations, waterfalls, a golf course, man-made lake and red-roofed English country style houses. In fact, Nuwara Eliya is actually known as “Little England” because it was established by the British in the 1840s as a base for the colonists, so don’t be surprised if you see red postboxes and typically English cottages dotted around before your eyes. When you’ve finished your sightseeing adventure, you’ll return to Kandy.
